Obituary of Ellen Mae Steely

Ellen Steely, 86, of Greeley, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on September 29, 2021 in Greeley. Ellen was born in Burlington, Kansas to Vernon Sr. & Ruth (Scoggin) Smith on January 27, 1935. She was raised in Kansas, Washington and Colorado. She graduated from Cache La Poudre H.S. in LaPorte, Colorado. On December 12, 1954 in Fort Collins, Colorado, Ellen married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Steely. She was a homemaker and bus driver for Stove Prairie School while her children were young. She also worked as a sales associate at Julian’s and Fashion Bar. In 1974, Bob and Ellen moved to the Greeley area where they owned the Star Service Center in Platteville, and then started B & R Trucking with son Rod (Karen). Ellen enjoyed fishing and camping at Lake John with Bob and several of her grandchildren. She also took her grandchildren on travels to visit family in Kansas. Ellen loved to sew and made many clothes and wedding dresses for her children and others. Ellen is survived by her children, Rodney (Karen) Steely, Robin (Phil) Morgan, Linda (Dwayne) Doney, and Vernon (Dena) Smith III; grandchildren, Cameron Steely, Chris (Emily) Morgan, Jessica (Ryan) Lutz, Crystal Morgan, Michael (Heather) Morgan, April Hildenbrandt, Holly (Beau Justice) Hildenbrandt, Whitney (Trever) Hanssen, Ashton Strong, and Chance Strong; 12 great-grandchildren; and a large loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son-in-law, David Hildenbrandt; grandsons; Aaron Steely, and Thomas Hildenbrandt; siblings, Vernon Smith II, and Betty Baldridge; and parents. As per Ellen’s wishes no formal services will be held. A Private Family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
