Momma had the best green thumb of anyone I knew. She could take a twig and make the most beautiful rose bush or tree you ever seen. I should have paid more attention to how she did this so that I could do the same thing. Momma I miss more every day and I know that you are watching over us. I am so glad that you are in no more pain.

As one of her many Kansas cousins, I have nothing but fond memories of Ellen. She had a warm smile, a ready laugh, and an abiding love for her family. Although our lives were largely separated by miles and years, the bonds of kinship remained strong. When visiting in Colorado, Ellen's hospitality was always evident and appreciated. Whether it was at Bob and Ellen's place up in Rist Canyon or, in later times, down in the flat, Ellen never failed to make us welcome. We loved seeing Ellen and her family back in Kansas as well. Some of my fondest recollections of childhood are of those gatherings at Grandpa and Grandma Smith's farm on Eagle Creek (some planned, some spontaneous) when 'kinfolks' would show up from near and far (including Colorado). Ellen was, as often as possible, one of them. I look forward to that ultimate family reunion when Christ calls us all home one last time, forever. To Rodney, Robyn, Linda, and Vernon, your families, each grandchild and great-grandchild, I offer you my heartfelt sympathy, love, and prayers. May God bless and comfort you.

Dear Mom,
Your last battle to fight was very difficult. Health issues would not let you win this battle even though you hung very tough, possibly proving everyone wrong that you could survive this sickness. You persevered thru so many obstacles and had the willpower and faith you could overcome, but this particular time was not meant to be.
You told me you were tired, as I could see it in your eyes and you were ready to go home to the great beyond to join up with your husband, father, mother, brother, sister, son-in-law and grandsons.
As we said a prayer together and I left your room, I had a sense come over me that God would put his arms around you and take you by the hand to lead you the way to the great beyond.
A rainbow appeared today as seen by many and someone said "Mom is Home!”
We will gather together to celebrate your life as family as I know your wishes of family. Soon your smile will be upon us from above.
The "Circle of Life” is complete for you.
Love Your Son Rod
