Obituary of Kathy M Chapin

 

Kathryn Marie (Henry) Chapin, 59 of Grover, Colorado, passed away peacefully on May 17^, 2023, surrounded by her family.

 

Kathy was born on November 30, 1963 in Salina, Kansas to Bill and Evelyn (Martin) Henry.  She was the fifth child born to Bill and Evelyn, but the first daughter, which she was very proud of.  She and her siblings grew up on the family farm outside of Salina.  She attended Southeast of Saline School where she graduated in 1982.  She then attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.

 

She met her husband, Randy in 1986 in McPherson, Kansas.  They got married on December 18, 1987 in Emporia, Kansas.  Together, they raised their daughter and only child, Ashley.  Kathy’s passion was always to positively influence the lives of children.  While in Emporia, Kathy ran a daycare out of her house and formed many lifelong bonds with the families she cared for.

 

In 1992, the family moved to Greeley, Colorado.  Her work with children carried on.  She cared for children from her home.  She drove a school bus for 13 years.  She also worked as a teacher’s aide for a preschool.  In 1998, the family moved to Grover, Colorado.

 

In 2007, she was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer and had several recurrences after her initial diagnosis.  She maintained her “can do” attitude throughout this time.  She was very adamant that she would live her life and enjoy her grandbabies, which she did, very much. 

 

In 2012, she started nannying for her Wyoming family.  This was by far her favorite job.  She greatly appreciated being able to spend time with them and became a part of their family as well.

 

Kathy made many lifelong friends in her life.  She always made people know how special they were to her, and she loved life and lived it to the fullest.  She will be greatly missed.

 

Kathy is survived by her parents, Bill Henry and Evelyn Peterson of Salina Kansas, her husband Randy Chapin of Grover, her daughter, Ashley (Rustin) Konig of Greeley, her siblings Bill (Kathy) Henry of Hawley Texas, Steve Henry of Solomon Kansas, Chuck (Janine) Henry of Solomon Kansas, Mike (Roleta) Henry of Salina Kansas, Kristy Henry of Wichita Kansas, her grandchildren Gus and Jed Konig, Her brothers-in-law Rick (Kay) Chapin of Lebanon Kansas, Rob (Jeannie) Chapin of Johnstown, nieces and nephews Shayla, Logan, Emily, Holly, John, Clarrissa, Coleman, Tera, Lindy, Melissa, Lucas, Cole, Mason, Nicki, Cody, Kelsey, and Christina.  She is preceded in death by her brother Gregory Henry, her stepfather Cecil Peterson, her father-in-law Gene Chapin, her mother-in-law Frances Chapin, and her nephew Carlos Henry.

Memorial services for Colorado and Kansas will be determined at a later date.
