Obituary of Josephine Grace Avila

Josephine Grace Avila, known as Chopa by her loved ones, passed away at home surrounded by her family on February 15, 2023. She was born October 31, 1955 in Mora, New Mexico to José and Emilia Sandoval. The family moved to Colorado in 1964. She attended school in Mora, New Mexico and later in Ft. Lupton and Greeley, Colorado. She graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1974.

Josephine’s beautiful smile and generous heart will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Valerie Avila (Mike Hurtado) of Greeley, CO; her son Brian Avila (Angela) of Mesa, AZ; and her daughter Rebecca Avila-Smith (Antonio) of Greeley, CO. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, seven brothers, and four sisters.

A rosary will be held on Friday, February 24th at 11:30am followed by a funeral mass at noon. Services will take place at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
