Obituary of Edna Irene Simmering

Edna I. (Renee) McCoy Simmering died November 9, 2022, in her home.  Her celebration service will be December 3, 10:30 A.M. at Northern Colorado Crematory, at 700 8^th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.

Renee was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.  She was born in Clarinda, Iowa, in 1930 to Lawrence and Ruby Preeo.  She married Ellis McCoy in a double ceremony with his brother Ben and bride Anna.  They farmed near Clarinda until Ellis’ death in 1962. While the farm and family captured most of her time, she also taught Sunday school and 4-H.

After Ellis’ death, Renee bravely gathered her three children and moved to Colorado with the support of her brother-in-law, Ben.  There Renee created a life for her children.  She went from farm wife to professional working woman.  She worked as a supervisor at the jean factory, got a business degree at Boulder college and was the first employee at Aims Community College working as secretary to President.  She married Gerald (Jerry) Simmering in 1978. 

She served as a deaconess at Christ Community Church and mentored school children through Kids Hope U.S.A.; and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  She relished cooking big family dinners and entertaining friends and her flower gardens. 

Thank you, Mom and grandma, there was always a place at the table, a listening ear and warm hugs.  You walked with us through the hard times and celebrated our successes.  You made us better people. 

She is survived by two children and two  step-children; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husbands, sister, one son, and one granddaughter.
