Obituary of Lyle Douglas Marcy

Lyle Douglas “Doug” Marcy passed away October 19th, 2022 of natural causes in Greeley, Colorado.  He was born September 13th, 1936 in Alliance, Nebraska to Robert Sidney Marcy and Hildred Laura (Hass) Marcy.  He was married to Jerri Becker for 63 years.

Doug was raised in the sandhills of Lakeside, Nebraska where he developed a strong work ethic driving deliveries of coal to customers of the family owned Lakeside Mercantile as soon as his feet could reach the pedals.  He was a standout on the football field and earned a full scholarship to the University of Nebraska, but his youthful age of sixteen proved him to be too young for his first attempt at college.  Thereafter he joined the Marine Corps and served in Japan during the Korean Conflict. After his military service was completed he finished his education at Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney, where he was once again a football star, gaining interest from multiple NFL teams.

He later worked as a teacher, coach, insurance adjuster, realtor, mail carrier, and machinist.  He was a skilled woodworker, and an entertaining storyteller, with an endless supply of songs or anecdotes to fit any situation.  He will be remembered by his grandchildren for his prolific baking of monster cookies, often making several dozen in a batch.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Louann, brother Samuel, and brother Freeman.  He is survived by wife Jerri, brother Dewey, sister Margie (Meredith), five sons; David (Shauna), John, Daniel (Anchalee “Kai”), Jay (Michelle) and Drew, ten grandchildren; Dylan, Alexa, Layton, Coraline, Sunisa, Gabriel, Orrin, Xander, Colton, Ryanne, and six great grandchildren.

He will be interred with his brothers, Samuel and Freeman at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska this coming April.
