Vicki Akin

Obituary of Vicki Lynn Akin

Vicki Lynn Akin, 64, of Greeley, CO passed away at her home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, Sept 9, after battling a year-long illness with cancer. Vicki was born on August 2, 1958 in Sterling, CO to Clarence and Christine Dick, joining 3 older siblings. The family moved to Haxtun for a while, and then settled in Greeley, CO.

Vicki graduated from Greeley West High School in 1976 and immediately joined the workforce as a cord operator for Mountain Bell in Provo, UT. She later moved back to Greeley, CO where she continued her phone company career for 38 years. Along the way she met and later married the love of her life, Gary Akin and the two became inseparable, making lifelong memories and friends wherever they went.

Vicki was always up for a good time, whether it be on land or water. You know when Vicki was there, a fun time would be had by all. Loyal, fun-loving, an infectious laugh, and life of the party are all synonymous to Vicki. She loved spending time with her family with trips to Glendevey, viewing the solar eclipse, Texas for a float on the river and of course, many trips to the casino. We often laugh that Vicki never could pass up a casino on her many travels. Vicki loved all of her nieces and nephews, always making time to enjoy them. She was everyone’s Aunt Vicki!  Her favorite hat to wear was Nana to her 6 grandchildren.

Vicki belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church and to all the members who became her extended family. She served as Treasurer for 3 years before she became ill. Vicki also had a deep and meaningful relationship with her Lord Jesus Christ, and reading daily scripture to her mother was a source of pride for Vicki, until her mother’s passing in 2021. She talked knowing that someday she would be greeted by Jesus and anticipated the glorious homecoming being reunited with Gary and her parents.

Vicki was preceded in death by her husband Gary, parents Clarence and Christine, and sister-in-law Becky. She is survived by step-son Tyler (Lindsay) Lowery and granddaughters Scarlett & Aviana and grandson Malachi of Castle Rock, CO, and step-daughters Wendy Lowery of Omaha, NE, and Heather (Andy) Jacobson and grandsons Zach and granddaughters Avery and Zoe of Bennington, NE; brothers Alan Dick of Eagle Mountain, UT, and Gary (Rose) Dick of Ft. Collins, CO, sister Kathy (Eddie) Gallegos of Greeley, and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. And her cats Gandolf, Princess, and Pixie.

Services will be at 10:00am on Friday, October 7th at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3000 W 35th Ave, Greeley, CO. A graveside service will be at Riverside Cemetery, 18611 US Hwy 6, Sterling, CO at 2:30pm.

Please wear tropical or Broncos attire.
