Obituary of Janice V. Steinmasel

Janice Viola Steinmasel, age 67, of Baggs, Wyoming, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her husband and children on April 15, 2022, in Greeley, Colorado.

Janice was born in Red Lodge, Montana to Olan and Violet Willis on August 2, 1954.  Her parents owned a registered Aberdeen Angus cattle ranch on the upper Red Lodge Creek.  Janice frequently shared memories from her time on the ranch, where she grew up with her six siblings.

Janice moved away from Red Lodge and had two daughters, Noell and Dawn, and one son, Jeremy, from her first marriage.  After returning to Red Lodge years later, she reconnected with an old friend, Dusty Steinmasel, who she began dating in August of 1996.  A few years later, they relocated to Baggs, Wyoming.  They were married in Laughlin, Nevada on October 31, 2002.  Dusty was the love of her life.

She was a very hard worker and had various jobs over the years, such as managing the Baggs senior citizen center, bartending, chinking log homes, and managing a motel.  Taking care of the Reader Cemetery in Savery, Wyoming was the job she loved most.

Janice definitely had two green thumbs.  She enjoyed tending to her plants, both indoors and outdoors. Spring was her favorite because it meant she could plant flowers and put out her hummingbird feeders. She loved being outdoors.  Some of her and Dusty’s favorite things to do together were fishing, shed antler hunting, shooting their bows, taking drives in their Jeep, and attending any and every Drag Racing event they could. Janice and Dusty never left a Drag Race without making new life-long friends turned family.

Family meant everything to Janice, especially her grandchildren.  She always made sure to spend as much time with them as she could.  Her grandchildren could always count on Nana’s Famous Bread when visiting.  She loved keeping them over the summer, even after the rubber snake prank.  They always had a great time with their Nana.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Janice is survived by her husband, Jack (Dusty) Steinmasel, their beloved bird Gabby; children, Noell (Lonnie) Groves, Dawn (Edward) Lizer, Jeremy (Tanya) Longhenry, Jesse (Eric) Bell, and Lester Patrick; grandchildren, Kali, Allison, Ethan, Aubrie, Alexis, Evan, Alex, Kaylynn, Conner, Austin and Jeremy Jr.; brother Frank, sisters Nancy (Doug) Dupuis, JoAn (Butch) LaFollette, and Linda Mann; sister-in-law Lynda Crawford; brother-in-laws  Jay (Tanya) Steinmasel and Jerry Steinmasel; many nieces, nephews, family and great friends.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Olan (Shorty) and Violet Willis; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Patricia Steinmasel; sister Anna Willis; brother John Willis; and brother-in-laws Jeff Mann and Scott Crawford.
