Obituary of Ellen "Polly" Maye Benson

Ellen Maye Inskeep Benson, known to most as Polly Benson, passed away at age 88 early morning Wednesday, January 05, 2022, at Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley after a short illness.

 

A native Coloradoan, she was born to Floyd and Maida Inskeep on February 25, 1933, in Loveland, Colo. She graduated from Longmont High School in 1951. Polly married the love of her life, Loren Benson, when they eloped to Raton, New Mexico on January 04, 1952.

 

Polly led a life full of adventure and experiences: From housewife, mother and grandmother to scout leader, courier and meat cutter, to truck driver, school bus driver and rancher, to name a few. Her great sense of humor was peppered with true joy and wisdom. She touched the lives of a great number people all across the nation and was much loved by many throughout her life. She became the loved "Mom” and "Grandma” to many friends and neighbors as well as strangers that she took in or helped. Her greatest heart was for the children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Having a great love for the Lord, Polly was a Proverbs 31 woman of God: Honorable and to be Praised.

 

She is survived by 4 children: 2 daughters Polly Anne Proctor (Herman), Delta, Colo., Barbara Loraine Jensen (Michael), Humansville, Missouri; and 2 sons Michael Loren Benson and Randy Floyd Benson, both of Nunn, Colo.; 2 sisters, Anna Smith, Longmont, Colo., and Helen Terry, Firestone, Colo.; 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; many, many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren; 2 grandsons, Joshua Benson and Philip Benson; 1 great-great-granddaughter, Camilla Moores; 2 sisters, Ruby Erickson and Shirley Olander; 2 brothers, Dave (Jim) Inskeep and Richard (Dick) Inskeep; and her parents.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 11am at Carr Community Church, 9433 Gray Ave, Carr, CO.
