Obituary of Sharon Lea Hagemeister

Sharon Lea Hagemeister, age 87, of Nunn, Colorado passed away at home on February 1, 2024 after a prolonged struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Sharon was born August 16, 1936 to Rodney and Harriette Southwick in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was an only child.

Sharon enjoyed an active childhood in Ft. Collins, Colorado, and spent summers with her grandparents in the Poudre Canyon. This instilled in her a lifelong love of the mountains. In her teens, Sharon’s mother passed away and Sharon went to live with her grandparents in Ft. Collins. Sharon graduated from Ft. Collins High School in 1954.

On March 18, 1956, Sharon married William Hagemeister, who passed away in 1993. The couple had three boys, Dean, Kurt and Rodney. In 1968 the family bought and moved to a farm north of Kersey where she participated in the many chores raising hogs, cattle and chickens, as well as spending many hours on a tractor. She often said these were her best years.

After selling the farm in 1974, Sharon began a 30-year career as a unit secretary at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colorado. Following her retirement in 2004, Sharon moved out to her son, Dean’s ranch near Barnesville. In 2007, she moved back to Ft. Collins where she reconnected with a friend from high school, Mark Giro, who became a very special friend and companion. After Mark’s passing in 2010, Sharon spent her final years in Nunn, Colorado, living with her son, Rod, who took beautiful care of her as she succumbed to her disease.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, by the father of her children, Bill, by daughter-in-law Cheryl and by Mark Giro. Sharon is survived by her three sons, Dean (wife Sarah), Kurt (wife Bonita) and Rodney, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

As per Sharon’s request, no funeral or memorial service will be held.
