Obituary of Dorothy Louise Brotemarkle

Dorothy Brotemarkle -Mom B- Age 94 of Platteville, died November 24, 2023.

She was born on August 9, 1929 in Kimball, Nebraska to Roy and Bernice(Ingersoll) Garrett.

In September 1948, she married Alan Brotemarkle in New Mexico.

Dorothy lived in Kimball until 1939 when the family moved to Platteville. This was her residence most of her life, except for college in Greeley and living at job sites around the state when her husband worked for Herren and Strong building roads.

She was a graduate of Platteville High School in 1945, when she was 15 years old. She graduated from Colorado State College in 1960 with a BA and University of Northern Colorado in 1970 with an MA.

Dorothy taught at elementary schools in Platteville, Johnstown, Vollmar, Ft. Lupton and in District RE1 for 22 1/2 years before retiring in 1980.

Dorothy and Alan loved to travel. They visited all 50 states and traveled the world. The most fun adventures that they had were many road trips in their motorhome with their grandchildren.

Dorothy was instrumental in starting the Platteville Pioneer Museum and the Platteville Historical Society. She volunteered many hours to these organizations.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, knitting, crocheting, sewing and all family activities.

Survivors are her son, Todd(Marcia); grandson, Blair(Tara); granddaughter, Quinn(Aaron) Benson; great-granddaughters, Sloan Benson, Baylor and Briar Brotemarkle; great-grandson, Boone Benson; sisters-in-law, Charlene Garrett and Ruth Freauff and numerous Nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, her husband, Alan in 2009; her son, Brad, 22 days before her death; her sister, June Hiatt and her brother, Bob Garrett.

No services will be held per Dorothy's request. A private family graveside service for Alan and Dorothy will be held at a later date.

As a tribute to Dorothy -Mom B-, read a book, crochet, do a crossword puzzle, watch the Rockies, take that trip, or go visit your local small town museum. Nothing would please her more.
