Obituary of Clyde Kay Edmiston

Dr. Clyde Kay Edmiston, 86, died Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Fairacres Manor in Greeley, Colorado after a long battle with Parkinson’s.

 

Clyde was born to Patsy Henderson Edmiston of Arkansas and Annona Fae (Alps) Edmiston of Colorado on June 4, 1937, at Greeley Hospital in Greeley, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and sister, Roberta Fae, who died at the age of seven.

 

Clyde attended Greeley schools and graduated from Greeley High School in 1955 and received a BA from Colorado State College in 1958. He took his Ph.D. with Professor Klaus Ruedenberg at Iowa State and Johns Hopkins Universities in 1963. He was a Research Assistant at Johns Hopkins University and a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Bureau of Standards (Washington D.C.) in 1963. In 1970 he was a National Science Foundation Senior Postdoctoral Fellow and a visiting professor of Physics at the University of Florida. Later he became a visiting scientist at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.

 

Dr. Edmiston was a Theoretical Quantum Physical Chemist. He became a professor at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming and taught quantum chemistry and thermodynamics, his main fields of research, from 1964 to 1995.

 

Clyde also enjoyed studying theology and religious history then demonstrating how quantum theory was challenging and changing views of God and nature to various groups in Colorado and Wyoming. He also liked playing chess and the piano and tried his hand at photography and poetry.

 

He married Rosemary Nicodemus, his third wife, on August 18, 1984, in Rocky Mountain National Park.

 

Clyde is survived by his wife, Rosemary Edmiston of Greeley, Colorado and daughter, Noelle Morin of Huntsville, Alabama and two grandsons, Max Morin, and Riley Sauls also of Huntsville, Alabama, and many cousins.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday October 6th at the First Christian Church, 2230 13th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80631.
